Book Overview

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers and Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley are forced to confront the past as they try to solve a crime that threatens to tear apart the very fabric of a quiet, historic medieval town in England

The cozy, bucolic town of Ludlow is stunned when one of its most revered and respected citizens--Ian Druitt, the local deacon--is accused of a serious crime. Then, while in police custody, Ian is found dead. Did he kill himself? Or was he murdered?

When Barbara Havers is sent to Ludlow to investigate the chain of events that led to Ian's death, all the evidence points to suicide. But Barbara can't shake the feeling that she's missing something. She decides to take a closer look at the seemingly ordinary inhabitants of Ludlow--mainly elderly retirees and college students--and discovers that almost everyone in town has something to hide.

A masterful work of suspense, The Punishment She Deserves sets Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers and Inspector Thomas Lynley against one of their most intricate cases. Fans of the longtime series will love the many characters from Elizabeth George's previous novels who join Lynley and Havers, and readers new to the series will quickly see why she is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed writers of our time. Both a page-turner and a deeply complex story about the lies we tell, the lies we believe, and the redemption we need, this novel will be remembered as one of George's best.

This was quite entertaining. But nit her best.

Although Garwood’s characters have a tendency to be interchangeable, she writes with wit and humor. Not quite as good as Lion’s Lady, but still entertaining.

Two great books combined into one price :)

Julie Garwood always delivers. She has one of the most steady reputations for wonderful historical romance. You will not lose with her.

Entertaining for Banter alone...

It had a wonderful plot, but I would have continued reading even if it didn't. The banter and confusion between Jade and Caine kept me laughing long after I put this book down. This is why I read books; to be left with a smile and a warm feeling when the last page is turned. Thank you Ms. Garwood for an outstanding book. The only two books I've reread more than this one is Perfect by Judith McNaught and, as it was one...

10 star book

First think I want to say is that I CANNOT believe people are giving this books something other than a 4 or 5! I don't think they were reading the same book as me, especially the one who thinks that she is named Sara!? How do you get Sara out of Jade??? Well anyhoo...I could not put this book down. The beginning is hilarious...I was laughing so hard I had to wipe the tears that were blurring the words on the page from my...

Wow!

When I first read this book, I could not put it down. I've read it three more times since then. I would give it ten stars if I could. The action is fast paced. It's hilarious. I loved Jade and Caine. This book has everything. Good characters. Interesting plot. Steamy love scenes. Never a boring moment. And it was refreshing to see a heroine who could rescue herself. This book is only surpassed by it's sequel--The...
