Tooth Trouble (Ready, Freddy! #1): Volume 1

ON THIS BOOK: Freddy realizes he's the last one in his class to lose a tooth. He gets teased by the school bully about it and he gets obsessed with trying to find a way to make a tooth fall out. My girls loved hearing each plan and how each plan fell through. The ending is a bit unrealistic but it was a cute at the same time. ON THE SERIES: There are so many things I love about the Ready Freddy books! First of all, he speaks correctly (not a lot of slang/blatant grammar errors). I'm not bashing books that don't (Junie B. Jones) I just feel it's easier for kids learning to read to read books that have the sight words they know in the books. Freddy and his friends are good kids with problems most kids can associate with. My kids laugh out loud at some of the situations they get in to and some of Freddy's ideas to get them out. I actually like the fact that Freddy doesn't get along with his sister. In all the books we've read so far there is always a moment when they work together even though they fight a lot. I think a lot of kids can identify with that and maybe they need a reminder that just because their brother/sister annoys them can still help each other out. My kids love trying to find the hidden FIN images in the books while I read. The illustrations are great. There are enough to help the kids picture the story but not too many that it distracts or feels like a picture book.

THE READY FREDDY BOOKS ARE ALL FABULOUS. THEY ARE MY GRANDSON GRIFFIN'S FAVORITE READING--HE THINKS THEY WERE WRITTEN ABOUT HIM AND I HAVE TO AGREE. GREAT SOCIAL LESSONS IN SUBTLE WAYS. MARVELOUS!

My seven year old son is an advanced reader but sometimes it can be a struggle to get him to read chapter books because of their length and lack of pictures. I bought this book after reading the reviews and I am glad that I did. My son loves this book. Although he whined about reading it initially, once he picked it up and laughed out loud, he stopped complaining. When he is done reading, he tells about the parts that he enjoyed most, which is a rarity for him while reading other chapter books. I will purchase the other books that are part of this series. It is important to keep children's interest and passion for reading, and this book fits the bill.

I think this is a great book to read to 1st graders. Second and third graders would probably enjoy reading it themselves. Many times there are only one or two students in 1st grade that have not lost a tooth and I think this would be a good story for them to listen to. There are many good character education lessons that could be taught using this book (bullying, compasion, perseverance and courage.) I liked the illustrations and the fact that the illustrator has hidden a word in each picture. Freddy's Fun Pages at the end of the story would make great extention activities when using this book.

I was pleasantly surprised when I happened upon this book. My son was a very early reader and I was looking for something age and experience appropriate to fill the void after finishing the Ricky Ricotta series. My son just turned five, and could read Captain Underpants, but I did not want to necessarily invite potty talk so prominently into play. I am also a bit hesitant for now about introducing some of the advanced subject matter topics in the Magic Treehouse series, because my son already asks more questions in a day than I can hope to answer. Enter Freddy. The illustrations are wonderful and the writing style is natural and kid friendly. The topics are relevant to children this age. It seems there are so many series aimed at young female readers... happily, this series is likely to be enjoyed by readers of both genders.
