Too Young to Kill

"Phelps gets into the blood and guts of the story." -Gregg Olsen Killing Her Wasn't Enough. . . Sixteen-year-old Adrianne Reynolds couldn't unravel the twisted tangles of jealousy and domination complicating her new life in East Moline, Illinois. What began as a fresh start after a troubled home life in Texas ended with Adrianne's body charred, stuffed into garbage bags, and scattered. It seemed the work of hardened criminals, but the truth was far more astonishing: her own "best friends" choked Adrianne to death and cut her up. Now, master crime writer M. William Phelps recounts this horrific saga of teen lust and violence in every gripping detail. Praise for M. William Phelps "One of our most engaging crime journalists." -Katherine Ramsland "Phelps creates a vivid portrait." - Publishers Weekly "One of America's finest true-crime writers." -Vincent Bugliosi Includes 16 Pages Of Shocking Photos

Okay book ... infuriating circumstances

This was my first Phelps book. Well researched, but mediocre writing (wonky grammar ... endlessly repetitive ... and tediously long winded in many stretches). The conditions surrounding this gruesome tragedy made my blood boil. Basically, all these lazy parents told their promiscuous, drunken, drug-addicted teenagers: "Well, Precious, since you hate high school, we think you should only go for a few hours a day [like a 5-year-old]. We want you to be happy and have lots more time to hang out with your [loser] friends getting high." Ever heard of tough love? That's where a bad kid earns back their bed, bedroom door, phone plan, allowance and so on by meeting certain requirements in school attendance, grades and behavior. Every day at my job, where I earn the money to support you, is not a little slice of heaven; but you have your job (school) and I have mine. This is not a prison; you are free to move out. Well, do I recommend this book? If you enjoy reading about the minutia of teenage melodrama ("I love you" ... "I hate you" ... "pass him/her this note" ... skipping school ... getting stoned ... mean girls ... profanity ... fast food), this one's for you. P.S. I detest the title. What is the RIGHT age to kill?! Sadly, 17-year-old murderers are hardly unique. P.S.2 I was curious about the writer's MANY snarky personal remarks about the prosecutor who won his case. Turns out that said prosecutor didn't take the writer's calls. Mr. Phelps, that cheap animosity towards those who don't participate in your project is unbecoming of a "professional" author and speaks of an inflated ego running amok. I also found your opinions (which don't belong in reporting) highly questionable. To call the male perpetrator the "greater monster" is odd, since he was the only one that was remorseful ... so much so that he fell apart at the seams.
