Too Much of a Good Thing

I love the many novels of Kimberla but this one is not at the top of my favorites. I have read many of the novellas about Rev. Curtis Black and let's face it--- you have milked his character with many novels but gurl........ it is time that you give Curtis a funeral and lay him to rest and if not, I am certainly burying him after reading this one. I am still waiting for you to bring us something new and I'm always faithful to you as an artist. Curtis is a disgrace and embarrassment to Black clergy and religion. We know that religion has its imperfection along with the church but this is way out of line. Curtis is painted like a super hero which we all know is not true. I understand that he might be very charismatic but he could not be that untouchable. Mariah, Charlotte and Adrienne are all women with such low self esteem that they allow a man of the cloth cloud their judgement and bring everybody down. I hated the ending. I never thought that a cat had 9 lives but Curtis proved me wrong. Karma is a b---- and I cannot wait until Curtis gets his although I don't hope to read about it. Come on Kimberla, please change the genre here and bring us a good novel that we can all be proud of????

I'm pretty sure a high school kid in English class wrote this. Time i can never get back... that hour I spent trying to get interested in this book.

This book was awesome!! I have read all of Ms. Roby's books and they are superb!! In her last novel, Too Much Of A Good Thing, she takes a realistic view of what is happening in a large number of churches in today's society. It is truly sad that some pastors and churches are not in to saving souls, which is truly the mission of the church, but they are into gaining monetary funds for material items. The novel centers around Rev. Curtis Black, who is Satan in the pulpit trying to lead his flock straight to hell. Rev. Black is weak in the spirit and the flesh and uses the church and his wife for his own personal gains. There are some officers and members of the church who are on to Rev. Black's schemes and put a stumbling block in his way to prevent the demise of the church. Ms. Roby does an excellent job conveying to individuals that you are to serve the one and only God and not man!! This sequel to "Casting the first stone" was even better. Curtis is definitely the vilan you just love to hate. The only thing that I didn't like about the book was the part were Ms. Roby tries to turn it into a soap opera by aging the characters. Alicia was six in the last book. The scene in this book takes place five years later but now she's fourteen. What's that about? The way the book is set up and the way all of the characters go through twists and turns, especially the dangers of minors and the internet, makes it hard to put this book down. There just has to be a trilogy to this Curtis saga. The ending gives clues that it will be. I just hope we don't have to wait another three years like we did for this one.Keep up the good work Ms. Roby.

Girls - listen this book is totally worth ALL THE DIMES that you have to spend to get it. Now you have to read Casting the First Stone before reading this one to get the true "madness" of all of this church mess. I read the book in a day and a half....couldn't put it down. I am not one to give you the details of the book...I just want to let you know Curtis is a MAD FOOL! hahahahahaNo - he hasn't learned a thing...and the self-righteousness of this man is unreal. I don't know who Kimberly had to talk to or where she had to go for her research but .... there is no way she doesn't know of a Curtis Black somewhere is real life. LOLLike another reader said...this book doesn't disappoint in the least....it just gets mo betta! This is a good one...but then again...with Kimberly's talent for writing I didn't expect anything less...Girl - you are simply BRILLIANT!!!I got a feeling we might just see this man again...............

I have to give it to Mrs. Roby, this was an excellent book. I advise anyone one that has read "Casting The First Stone" to read "Too Much of a Good Thing". And if you haven't read "Casting The First Stone" you need to, because it's an excellent read and the sequel is the "BOMB". Once again Curtis Black let the devil intervene, and cause more problems. I love reading Mrs. Roby books and I hope somehow she can come up with a sequel to the sequel.

TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING is the long awaited sequel to Casting the First Stone. Curtis Black, the man with a gift for gab, returns and is once again called to ministry. Members of his previous church - Faith Missionary Baptist Church - formed a new church called Truth Missionary Baptist Church and want the infamous Curtis Black to be their senior pastor. A stipulation: he had to be married within two years because it didn't look right to have a pastor who is single. He has been courting Mariah for six months and she prayed everyday hoping the fine Curtis Black would ask her to be his wife. So, in an effort to appease his board and regain his notoriety, he asked Mariah to marry him. Her prayers were answered, but shortly after marrying him, Mariah began to realize that she had to be careful of what she prayed for. She was now praying for a calm resolution to her personal dilemma. The humiliation that previously caused Curtis to lose his family, his church, and his unborn child five years ago only proved to be a temporary restraint. His constant lust for women, greed for money, and need to have power remained ever present and were now leading him down the same detrimental path to corruption. Only this time, his wrath filters into his family and could possibly cause him to permanently lose not only his church, but also his 14-year old daughter Alicia, his 5-year old son Matthew, and one of his mistresses. TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING is a novel that left lingering questions in regards to how much fiction the story is - really. It also serves as a lesson to those who believe that asking for forgiveness is justification for an act. In this eye-opening novel, you come to realize that forgiveness is truly granted when you finally realize that your indiscretions can (and will) have a lasting affect on the people around you. Mrs. Roby has a vivid imagination and pulled me into her story. TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING had my emotions rising and falling in intervals and is too good to pass up; it's a highly recommended read....
