Tom Jones: Close Up

The book was factual with a complete listing of references in the Index. The authors provided a balance in accounts so that the reader could develop an overall understanding of the man. I found the intricate details of his sexual habits interesting. That the authors could trace to a source to learn such intimate detail, showed the detail to which they researched the book. The book perhaps focused much on the music industry, how songs formed, the bands and musicians that created the entire package "Tom Jones". We learn through the authors the weaknesses and strengths of such an entertainer. The book provided a good blend of personal and professional insight into Tom Jones. This was not a gossippy type read.

I am a true fan of Tom Jones and after reading this book, I verbalized a resounding Yuck!!! There were details in the book that I did not know about.......and wished I still didn't know about. I agree with others that have posted here in that there are some things in a person's life that are much better left alone. I realize that this was an expose' on Tom Jones and I respect that. It is a well written book. However, I got the distinct impression that underlying it all, the authors were not fond of Tom Jones from beginning. He is a remarkable singer, a true legend, and I am still a huge fan. I will, however, never look at a bottle of Listerine the same way.

I JUST FINISHED THIS BOOK I FOUND IT INTERESTING BUT THERE WASNT MUCH INIT THAT I DIDNT ALREADY KNOW. I AM A TRUE FAN OF TOM JONES AND I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE INFORMATION ON HIMTHE BOOK WAS GOOD AS I SAID BUT I THINK THE WOMEN WHO WROTE IT DIDNT ALWAYS PUT HIM IN A GOOD LIGHTI WAS A VERY INTERESTING BOOK AND I REALLY ENJOYED IT ESAPECIALLY THE PHOTOS

I purchased this book from a used bookseller thru this site, and was pleasantly suprised at how quickly it arrived. It was in very good condition, complete with dust jacket. I have to agree with a previous reviewer that indeed, some things may have been better left unsaid or unpublished. However, one must remember that no matter how much we may idolize and idealize our favorite entertainers, in reality they are just human beings like the rest of us. My initial impression after reading the book was, hmmmm, I don't think I like Tom Jones quite as much as I thought I did for the last 30 years or so. However, the book contained a lot of interesting information about the life and career of a truly great and unique entertainer. Now I'm waiting for reviewer "nydiamond" to get her story published, as I'm fairly certain I can guess who she is.

This 'tell all' book about the great Welsh singer is an excellent read. It traces Jones' legendary rise to superstardom but also includes stories about TJ super fanatics like Pastor Jack J. Stahl, who was named the 'Strangest person in America' for worshipping Jones. This Biography is like none other you will ever read. If you are a fan of Jones & want to know what he is really like 'Close Up', than this is the book for you!
