It's been 25 years since I read this book in my elementary school library. Today I got my ham radio license. Coincidence? Absolutely not!

This was the book I read that launched my ham radio lifestyle. Great book, I actually tracked it down and added it to the books in my shack. It holds a valuable place in my heart and my shack!
The best book for getting a kid interested in ham radio

I first read this book when I was 11, many many years ago. It stayed with me for years and I finally got my own ticket a decade and a half later. It's not a techo-boring book either - the story line is great, the characters are interesting and the information is accurate (for the time - many of the licensing rules have changed but it's still a good road map to get your license). Eric Crane became the guy I wanted to be like when the time came to get on the air and the author has done a great service to hams everywhere with this book. Read it or better yet, buy it for a kid you love.

re-publish all of Ms. Parkinson's books. I read the trouble for Rupert series at the upper grade school time, and loved them! I saved somehow one yellowed copy of Triple Trouble for Rupert, and now my boys love them too. Strangley enoough, I was into ham radio slighty later, and was unable to read "Today I am a Ham", but knowing her excellent writing style, I'm sure it was (and is) excellent. A Boy, His Dad, Sports, Success, Failure, and HAM RADIO!

This book really sparked my imagination when I was a boy of eleven. It was another 25 years or so before I became a ham radio operator like the story's hero, but the interest generated by this book is why I entered a wonderful hobby. How many books can you say that about. Thank you Ms. Parkinson. I only wish I could tell you that personally. 73
