To Sin with a Stranger

I really love the theme for this series of Seven Deadly Sins and how each of the seven characters, The Sinclair Brothers and Sisters, who were sent off to London by their father due to their ill behavior. They are getting by, by little money because their father is withholding their inheritance until they improve themselves and the Sinclair's name.. They each have a personality related to this theme of the Seven Deadly Sins which are, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride. This first book is on the Marquess of Blackburn, Sterling who is considered to be cursed with 'Greed'. The heroine Isobel has her issues to deal with as well with her father since she is involved with charities to raise money for widows and children but has been involved in some scandals that upsets her father. An adventurous book with a wager made at Whites that they will marry, brings the two together in a seduction that made for a fun and romantic read! Its going to be great reading about each of the Brothers and Sisters stories to learn more about each of their curses and their romance! Only problem is we have to wait for each of the books! THE MOST WICKED OF SINS will be out September 29,2009. In the meantime, go check out this first book, greatly recommended!

The Seven Deadly Sins are seven brothers and sisters originally from Scotland. When their father banishes them to London to earn his respect and the family name, the siblings are at a loss. Their father only gives them enough money to barely live on. The oldest brother, Sterling Sinclair, the Marquess of Blackburn, finds a way to bring in more money: a fighting match. In the middle of the fight, literally, steps Miss Isobel Carrington. This begins Sterling's attraction to the woman of bravery and loyalty. Sterling sets up a bet - that he will marry Isobel by the end of the Season. While the bet is the impetus of their courtship, the attraction between the two is real. The Seven Deadly Sins series by Ms. Caskie is off to a great start with To Sin With a Stranger. The siblings are a fun family and the characters all come alive on the page, as does the romance between Sterling and Isobel. "To Sin with a Stranger" begins what sounds to be a promising series, about 7 brothers and sisters cast out of Scotland to make a name for themselves. Called the "Seven Deadly Sins," each sibling represents a particular vice. Sterling, the eldest, is supposed to be "Greed," but I really don't see it. He is concerned with money, but has the clear excuse that his family is completely broke. After meeting Isobel, he begins to change his ways (donating to her charity). But that change is only implied, there is not much to show that he was spendthrift in the past. All of the characters are likable, but I felt there was a lack of development on all sides. The story is set up so that there is supposed to be tension between the two main characters, but it just isn't there. They fall in love quickly and that's all there was to it. I guess I just expected a little more...oomph. All in all though the book is enjoyable. The characters are likable and the storyline is interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing where Caskie takes the rest of the characters.

Sterling Sinclair and his younger brothers and sisters have been thrown out of their ancestral home by their father. Not having the money to spend on society and all the rounds of parties and balls, the Sinclair family does their best to hide the truth about their lives. Holding the family together is hard, especially when they look to Sterling for guidance. With no other recourse, Sterling Sinclair has to earn his money with his fists. A strong prizefighter, Sterling is on a winning streak. If he can win just one more fight, he and his brothers and sisters will have enough money to finance the entire season. Sterling also hopes to find a bride with a large dowry. He sees a beautiful woman across the room watching him, but when he puts on the charm, she slaps him. First blood has been drawn in this game of love, and Sterling, the Marquess of Blackburn, does not plan on losing. Sterling and Isobel execute a perfect dance. Each doesn't want to give in to their feelings, but the harder they fight, the more they fall - in love that is. Kathryn Caskie just has a way about her when she writes a historical romance. Her writing makes me laugh out loud one minute and sigh in pleasure at the tenderness of her characters the next. TO SIN WITH A STRANGER is exactly what I hoped it would be and nothing like I expected. Sterling Sinclair is a man at the height of his societal career. Penniless during a time when being poor can make or break a person's reputation, Sterling does what he can to ensure that his family will not be a casualty of London society. I think he does a tremendous job at keeping his family together while trying his best not to fall in love with Isobel. Isobel Carington is the bane of Sterling's existence as well as his light in a room filled with darkness. Their first introduction to each other didn't go so well, and being the man that he is, Sterling loves to poke and prod Isobel. She doesn't want anything to do with him and that just makes Sterling all the more determined. Enticingly funny, innocently sensual, and emotionally gripping, TO SIN WITH A STRANGER is a must read! TO SIN WITH A STRANGER only whetted my appetite for more. I can't wait to see where this talented author goes with this series, and I look forward to each installment. Natalie S.
