To Life in the Small Corners

Daily, the media bombards us with bleak and negative images of the "third world", countries most of us will never visit, peoples we have learned to fear. This book offers a corrective experience--the beauty, the joy, and strength of cultures we ought to know more about, cultures we need to know in their wholeness and not simply in their tragedies. An important book, and for children, especially important.

A beautiful book

This is a beautiful book by any standard. Many photograpers and writers have been to the same ccountries that she portrays, but seldom does one see such sensitivity and respect for the cultures of the people who are her subjects. Her written descriptions of the photos are not only prose; they are poetry.

Soul stirring

So often photographic essays focus on the plight of third world peoples. This gorgeous book captures the dignity, pride and beauty of diverse peoples in faraway places. It's a reminder that, whatever our differences may be, we share a common humanity. Visually stunning and sensitively presented - with proceeds going to a worthy cause - this is a book you can be proud to give everyone on your gift list.

A Miraculous Journey

Carol Scribner's "To Life in the Small Corners" was able to take me to places that I have only been able to dream about until now. Through Scribners's generous sharing of her intimate photos, she was able to craft this truly wonderful collection of pictures focusing on the nomadic tribal people and their way of life. Scribner's inspiration and motivation emanated from her experiences with Irma Turtle of the Turtle Will Charity, where a significant portion of the proceeds from this book will ultimatly end up. Recently, I reviewed this book with my 5 year old daughter who was facisnated by the extents to which the tribal people, who Scribner follows throughout the book, have to go to sustain life. The journey that my daughter and I were able to take through Scribner's pictures was truly rewarding for both of us. No matter what your age, the images contained in "To Life in the Small Corners" belongs on your coffee table. "To Life in the Small Corners" holds something special for everyone!

Scribner is tops in travel photography

Scribner's book and photos make you want to see all of 'the small corners' that she has visited. Her photos bring to the reader the view of people that few of us will ever have the privilege of meeting or seeing. This is a book that every child, young adult or the aged can appreciate. What a way to see the wordl!! Scribner has done it..
