The Haves and The Have Nots

The first part of this book was hard for me. I can relate to a childhood of neglect and it triggered difficult memories. Yet I laughed out loud during many parts of the book and I couldn't wait to finish it. I've passed this on to many friends and it sparks plenty of conversations about "the haves" and "the have nots." It's not just a book about the writer. IT's much deeper than that and I think many people will relate to tough beginnings.

inspiration

To Have Not is an inspirational story that speaks to the tenacity of the human spirit. It also is a wonderful story about surviving and thriving as a woman in our culture. While reading the book I often laughed, smiled and sometimes choked up about just how crazy this life can be. Wonderfully written and a wonderful life story.

She's got it

Frances shows a great sense of instinct in her writing. I was taken back to many childhood moments (thinking, didn't everyone go through that?) and also shows great poise in some sticky situations (I would never be that gracious). But she also shows a "badass" side I never thought could be there. Well rounded and well written. Kudos, Frankie.

A beautifully written memoir

Frances Lefkowitz is a gifted story-teller. These stories are real and for me that makes them deeply touching. I feel honored to be invited into her life as intimately as To Have Not allows me.

reflection and awakening

Enjoyable to read- full of depth and texture. I read through this like a new box of fresh assorted chocolates. But all of the moments aren't chewy and thick. Many are fun and crunchy and it all just left me wanting taste it all! For me, this is a book about growth and healing through reflection. It inspired me to bring up moments from my past and really bring all my senses to it from what it felt like when I was young. Entertaining and enriching book to read.
