Expectant widow and her hot cop

It's not a spoiler to let you know in this story the hero shot and killed the heroine's husband. Canfield doesn't spend the first third or half of the book setting up the story; it pretty much plunges right in with the woman finding out about her husband's death. Of course, the cop/potential romantic interest doesn't let her know HE'S the one who pulled the trigger. That gets revealed and, no surprise since this IS a romance, resolved in the latter portion of this book. If I remember correctly the husband was burglarizing/embezzling the business for which he worked or something along those lines and it had already been under investigation. It's been years and years since I read or re-read this story, so forgive my fuzzy memory. I figured since there wasn't any review at all of this wonderful book that my somewhat lame description would be better than none at all :) But I'll let you be the judge of that. The heroine is pregnant, so the hero feels horrible about killing her husband. This man falls for the woman so quickly and yet believably that it was a poignant tale indeed. He's right there when she has the baby and there are some scenes where he cuddles her, after the birth, that are pretty steamy. He is such a wonderful, caring but tough man that he loves her baby as he would his own and makes it his mission in life to love this woman. Another great one by Sandra Canfield. Her best are among her "Calloway Corners" tales, and also "Night Into Day," "Voices on the Wind" and "Cherish this Moment." Canfield also wrote under the pen name Karen Keast. Karen Keast's best, which were Silhouette Special Editions, include A Tender Silence," a beautiful, valiant woman hires a tough guy to help her claim her late husband's remains from Vietnam; "The Surprise of His Life," a headstrong young woman falls for and pursues her Dad's hunky best friend despite the man's reluctance due to their age difference; and "One Lavender Evening." Go to that book title to read my review of that one.
