Three Hours in Paris

What a Great Mystery and Historical Story ! I truly don't remember ever hearing about this author, but when the book title popped up, I was immediately intrigued by the title. So I purchased the book, and I am so Glad I did. She is an exceptional writer, that had me staying up till almost 3 am reading away !! (Perks of being retired )lol lol). This story is about a young American girl who is a markswoman with her rifle, Growing up on a ranch in Oregan, with 5 brothers, and her dad, where they hunted for their food during the harsh terrible unrelentless winters. Kate became such a great markswoman, that she would have qualified for the Olympics Shooting team, had they let women participate in that category. Kate works in an Mutations factory, inspecting and trying out all the rifles as they are made. She catches the eye of a British Intelligence recruiter, and he offers her an assignment in Paris. Kate, who has a personel vendetta against the Luftwaffe and Hitler, is glad to jump at the offer to "Get Even" , in any way she could, after a bombing near her home, caused the death of her beloved Husband and baby daughter. Filled with grief and revenge..to stop the hurt that won't leave her, Kate accepts the offer, and is given a 6 week crash course in spy training. From fighting tactics, to camouflaging, to lock picking, and how to access, read, decide and act in any situation. Her mission is to Assinate Hitler. As she waits for her target on the church steps, a parishioner comes out with a little girl, with chubby cheeks, and a head full of curls, that reminds of her own baby that was killed. Hitler picks up the little girl..making it impossible for Kate to get a clean shot at Hitler. She tries anyway..once the child is shifted from one arm to the next, but she misses and hits the Chancellor standing behind Hitler. She has missed her mark, and the plan unravels. She has mere minutes, to break down the rifle, stow it away, change clothes, and escape without bringing a lick of attention to her "Americanness ". She sneaks away unseen, as the streets are teaming, with the thunder of soldiers and their black boots bearing down everywhere. Kate is on the run for her life, with Tons of obstacles in her path, and while she goes to designated spots in town to meet her contacts, nothing is panning out. She is alone, afraid, and hasen't a clue how she's going to get home to London. While the operation falls apart from day to day..kate realizes and suspects that the whole thing was a setup..she was sent in as a decoy the whole time...as her handler back in London NEVER actually gave her the info on how to get out ! Oh my God, Sooo good, full of suspense, gripping you from the start to the last word ! Kate, and the Characters around her are well written making the story an Excellent thriller !! I Now Look forward to moving on to her other books, that sound just as great, Judging from the reviews . An Excellant read in every aspect.
