This Is Happiness

I had no preconceived ideas about this book. Purchased after I read a review online; Niall Williams was unfamiliar to me. But now! Now, I think he’s pretty darn brilliant. Mr. Williams takes a sleepy, gentle village full of salt of the earth people and allows readers to really know them. Their lives on the verge of changing with the introduction of electricity, shifts from uncomplicated with such depth to modern convenience. But oh, the characters. I felt like I’d always known them. Almost every page has a quote worth sharing. This quiet and serene story, that I took time to savor, has won my heart.
