Captivating story

This Homeward Journey is the fifth book in the Heart of the Mountains series by Misty M. Beller and it is a good read. It is a beautiful and captivating story of unexpected love, the importance of learning to trust one's heart again. The writing style is graceful and flows smoothly as the author tells the story of a widow alone with her young son traveling through the Montana territory to the Canadian mountains during the mid-1860s to find her brother and hopefully make a new life. (When I read stories of travel, especially over mountains and areas fraught with dangers, I am amazed at how people survived and thrived--makes me wonder how I would respond and if I could be as brave.) The further she goes into this new life ahead, buried dreams seem to come alive. Will Rachel dare to follow them? And what about Seth, a man who may not be dangerous but he sure causes a ruckus with her emotions. Can she trust him? Will she be able to give him her heart? Strong and riveting characters are likable and readers are drawn quickly into their and their stories. And they each definitely have a past story that is driving life in the present. The author has infused the story with lots of nail-biting action--marauding bears, menacing rattlesnakes, and malicious kidnappers all keep the pages turning. Realistic situations and wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story and threaded throughout the book is a faith in God--the God who guides us in the right way and who alone can fix situations that we are not able to fix. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Beller's books. I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit.
