Captivating historical romance

This Daring Journey is the sixth book in the Heart of the Mountains series by Misty M. Beller. Although it continues the story of Samuel Grant from the previous book, it is easily read as a stand-alone book as the author does a great job filling in enough of the backstory the reader does not have a lot of questions regarding what has gone on before. It is a beautiful and captivating story of unexpected love, the importance of being able to trust family and friends (and sometimes strangers) and as the title suggests a daring journey through the wintry Canadian mountains during the mid-1800s. The writing style is graceful and flows smoothly as the author tells the story of a young widow, Moriah, and Samuel traveling through the mountains to find Moriah's family. The author has beautifully crafted her characters, Moriah, strong and full of spunk and determination. Samuel, a rugged man of the mountains and yet with a tender heart who cared, provided and protected those he loved. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Moriah and Samuel morph and change throughout the story as they encountered so many struggles, harrowing struggles--illness, fire, wild animals, and so much more. Moriah trusted few men, especially white men. Could she trust Samuel to safely lead her and her newborn to find her family? Strong characters that are so likable, realistic situations, wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story and threaded throughout the book is a faith in God--the God who alone can fix situations as we are not strong enough to do so. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Beller's books. I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit.
