This book is essentially a collection of unusual groups to which people belong, some of which are very unusual, indeed. The book is completely above board (lest you think these groups are fabricated) and written in an amusing style that includes historical anecdotes about the groups as well as contact information and Internet addresses should you wish to investigate further or join one of the groups. Examples of groups in the book include The Not Ready for the Algonquin Roundtable Society, The World Beard and Moustache Championships, The World Rock Paper Scissors Society, Wings Across Carolina Kiting and Okra Society, and my personal favorite, Songfight, which may sound boring but actually features hypercompetitive song writing championships on subjects furnished weekly by the supervisors of the organization (www.songfight.org). The book freely acknowledges that these people are a little unusual, but in a generally upbeat and positive way.
