Think Again

I just received this slender book at our high school library and wondered at first glance if there was a mistake in my order. But to be sure, I read these 61 pages of deceptively simple poems accompanied by equally simple line drawings in a few minutes and decided to keep this book. Most of these poems are four lines, and are rhymed, but each one packs a lot into each verse. This one, called "The Heart," spoke to me personally: Make sure that your heart Isn't too well defended: Your heart is designed To be broken and mended. There will be a limited audience for this book, but it's worth having around for those who seek to understand, or "think again," through poetry.

Like a journey to the past, Think Again brought me right to the doorstep of my first love. Serious, humorous, ironic, tenderly painful and painfully tender, Think Again perfectly captures love, depression, self-discovery and the earnest yearning and angst of youth with all its quirks, intelligence and idealism. The illustrations by Julie Morstad are perfectly married to each little poem, artfully setting the mood for this little book of poetry.
