It's a mystery that dates back to World War II--what happened to the USS Sturman and its crew. For Naval Investigator Nicholas Hammond, the search will challenge him...and the answers will, like... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Just to set some facts straight -- (1) THIN AIR was authored by George E. Simpson (not George Eaton Simpson) and Neal R. Burger. (2) THIN AIR is not based on THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT, either the movie or the book by Charles Berlitz and William Moore. THIN AIR came first. THIN AIR is fiction, not fact, and was never purported to be fact. It is a fictional work based on stories that were circulating in the 1970s about The Philadelphia Experiment. It was preceded in publication by Simpson and Burger's GHOSTBOAT (1976) and was followed by their FAIR WARNING, SEVERED TIES and BLACKBONE. Burger passed away in 2005. Simpson still breathes and lives if only to correct these facts. Oh well, maybe for other reasons, too.
The Best Book I have read!

I bought this book by chance. Once I started it I was hooked and immediately went looking for other books by the authors. This lead me to "Ghost Boat" which was another great thriller. Where have these two authors gone?
A terrific blending of fact and fiction

When I was a teenager, my father told me about the Philadelphia Experiment. A fews years later I read this book and the story has stayed with me for 20 years. This book was the basis for the movie, the Philadelphia Experiment, which was produced in the mid-eighties. If you can find a copy of this book, I'm sure you will find it as memorable as I did.
An amazing book

My father had a well-worn copy of this book, and when I sat down to read it it became worn some more because I had to read it several times. It's an incredible tale, and just for the record I ought to mention a timeline (I'm pretty sure this is accurate): This book was first. The movie "The Philadelphia Experiment" was BASED ON THIS BOOK, not vice-versa (at least that's what I've been told). Then came "The Philadelphia Experiment" (the book), then came "The Philadelphia Experiment II" (the movie). If anyone knows if this is true or not, please let me know.
The Experiment Never Stopped...

This has to be one of the best Science Fiction/Mystery novels ever written. Based on the Philadelphia Experiment, it's a mystery combining fact and fiction that you can't put down until the last page. The back cover says it all... "They faded...They went zero...The men, the ship, everything. They disappeared into...".
