A great slice-of-life from NYC and boarding school.

Growing up in New York City, Alice fought boarding school until at the age of 14, she realizes it might be a "cool" place to go and reinvent herself. Once at the school, it is a funny, sad, compelling slice-of-life for anyone young girl that desperately wants to fit in yet stand apart. Alice is forced to deal with a less than perfect match for a roommate (a golf prodigy from Chicago), and her new group of friends and also keeps in touch with her friends from the city. Her old neighbor Carlotta plays an interesting mentor to Alice. This book is wonderful if you grew up in the Manhattan area or attend boarding school, but may be a little hard to comprehend if you did not lead this particular lifestyle. Still, it is enjoyable for all - and quite possibly more so for the girl that would be introduced to this style of living.
