Walk the walk like Jesus
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
First written in 1983, this book was considerably revised and expanded. As a book after the Vatican II, the author constantly referred the subject matter to the practices of early Christians who replaced much of the 'religious activities' with community, charism, and service. "A theory of ministry ...is a theology of the Holy Spirit, a contemplative analysis of grace." The author is not afraid to put 'religion'to tasks by highlighting the external, cultic, tribal, and superfical aspect of religion. Today when certain members of the Catholic Church want to go back to 'those good old days' by promoting Latin Masses and the conservative theologies associated with it, this book belongs to the enlightened or progressive camp. Despite the arrangement of the contents which could have been more organized and condensed, and the random terminologies which could have been spared -since the target readers are more practitioners (pastoral ministers) than theological students, this book provides many insights, modern perspective on religion, spirituality, grace and the central meaning of the New Testaments. Unfortunately, as an ordained priest, the author did not address the thorny issue of clericalism and judicialism that are important parameters in the field of professional pastoral minstry.

This book presents a very solid and eye opening theology of ministry for the Church. O'Meara develops his theology by examining the history and theology of ministry in Church. This book is an absolute must for those involved in ministry.
