Dramatic novelization

A novelization of the successful 1950s play which captures all the excellent dialogue of a stunning drama with the fast pace and descriptiveness of a good novel. Documenting the dangerous and dramatic youth of the young Princess Elizabeth Tudor, the daughter of Henry VIII and the captivating, ill fated Anne Boleyn Captures the period between the death of her father and of her sister, England looked to Elizabeth as the deliverance from the bigoted and tyrannical Queen Mary I. Quick moving and quick witted, but ever loyal and prudent beyond her years, this novel displays a full cast of those involved in this period and the perverse relationship between Elizabeth and the charming, cunning Sir Thomas Seymour, the husband of Elizabeth's stepmother, Katherine Parr. It continues to Elizabeth's incarceration and accusations of treason by the unstable Mary. Combines the ingredients of good historic literature and is worth getting hold of.

What a pity this book isn't still in print!

This lovely novelization of a play by the same authors introduced me to the intriguing character of Elizabeth the First, and remains my favorite novel to deal with Elizabeth's early life. It spans the years from the death of Elizabeth's father to that of her sister, Mary, and Elizabeth's ascension to the throne. In it there are no heaving bosoms, no gratuitous sex scenes (and I say this as someone who likes a good non-gratuitous sex scene as well as anyone), and no wild conjecture without historical basis. Elizabeth's story is a good one without embellishment. This book tells it.
