This volume forms the introduction to the great Saga De Bellis Stellarum : a tale of the battle between Light and Darkness, and the return of chivalry through the founding of a modern Order of Knights. It's a stormy day in December of 2001 and Robert Felsen is returning to the U.S.A. after completing an errand in Germany. Inside the rare old book he's carrying is something even more rare, something he only learns about at the very last minute - for the cargo vessel Phosploion on which he is travelling wrecks on the shoals just east of Quayment, the famous booktown on the Atlantic coast, and Robert's home. Unfortunately, the Coast Guard patrol also wrecks when attempting to aid the stricken vessel. Word goes out and the townspeople mount a rescue effort for both vessels. Robert's son Tom, a high school sophomore, wants to participate but he has to find someone willing to take him along. After local college student Joe Outis borrows his grandfather's speedy craft, Tom begs his classmate Mark Weaver to go with him. But more than just a storm or shipwrecks are at stake...
