This value-based book was utterly charming and fun!

Every young child has lessons to learn and Solomon was no exception. His sister Sara often had a few lessons to learn as well. When you are young, it does take a bit of time and the wisdom of others to help you along your way. Solomon was a young Amish boy from a large family. Solomon, Mervin, Clarence, Paul, Aaron, Owen, Barbara, Katie, Carolyn and Sara and their parents were all there together to guide and nourish each other along their life's paths. Oh, and of course they had ten cousins and their Uncle Noah (who just happened to be a minister). Solomon thought he was schmaert (smart) and was often prone to give advice and didn't hesitate to pat himself on the back, not realizing that some of his advice came from vanity and not logic. Abe wanted to know how he could get his teeth cleaner and Solomon raced into the house for a bar of soap. "Danki!" (thanks) Everyone he had given advice to ran into trouble of sorts. Uncle Noah reminded him that "before giving advice, it's best to pray and ask for wisdom." Sara on the other hand, didn't want her brother Solomon's advice when he said to her "you're stretching the truth." She said a spider was as "big as a horse," she broke one of her Mom's favorite dishes and broke the string on Solomon's yo-yo. Was Sara going to learn to be honest or would she get her good friend Betty in trouble? "Thump! Thump! Thump!" Sara's heart was pounding. It was now or never! This value-based book was utterly charming and I was so entranced I almost finished it in one sitting. Each chapter is introduced with quotation from Proverbs to introduce the ethic or common sense teaching that Solomon or Sara (or your own child) will need to learn. The way of the Amish and their dialogue is gently introduced throughout the book. Regardless of creed, this book is one that will gently point out lessons that need to be learned. The playful artwork that graces almost every page meshes perfectly with the text. In the back of the book is a glossary of "Amish Words and Phrases." This is a delightful book is one you won't want to pass up!

A great pick for a young reader seeking something different

The Amish are a strict people, but it doesn't meant heir lives are devoid of adventure. "The Wisdom of Solomon: A Soloman Lapp and Friends Amish Storybook" tells the story of young Solomon and Sara Lapp as they deal with the stress and challenges of everyday Amish life. It's not as dull or alien as one would think, as Solomon and Sarah's problems translate well to the standard child's lives as well. "The Wisdom of Solomon" is a great pick for a young reader seeking something different.

Another wonderful story by Wanda Brunstetter

I have read almost all of Wanda Brunstetter's adult series books. My niece just recently learned how to read, so I thought I would get her some of the children's books. My niece has loved them. The Wisdom of Solomon is one of the books I got for my niece, and we read it together. I love how it teaches character along the story and brings out the love of God in a way that a child can understand. I will continue to get both the adult series books and now the children's books that I will enjoy with my niece for a very long time.

Wonderful!

"The Wisdom of Solomon Lapp" is a wonderful book for children. The illustrations are beautiful and the stories are fun filled and all have great lessons for children and adults alike. Reading this book to your child can be a great bonding experience and open conversations about kindness, sharing, courage, and caring for others. A big winner in our household.

Short stories with a lesson...

The Wisdom of Solomon, by Wanda E. Brunstetter, like most of her books takes place in an Amish community. Solomon Lapp and his sister, Sara, live in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This delightful book is an anthology of twelve short stories, sure to please children 5-8 years of age. Each story begins with a scripture from Proverbs. The moral of the stories are easy to discern. Asking God before speaking, sharing, Jesus watches over you when you are sleeping, and having a happy heart are just a few of the lessons found in this book. Illustrator Phil A. Smous uses bold colors to catch the eye of reader. Each illustration compliments the story. The glossary in the back of the book defines Amish words that may be unfamiliar. My copy of The Wisdom of Solomon is a hardback book, well-bound, and should hold up under repeated handling by children. Smudges and smears from little hands are easily washed off the cover. I've always enjoyed Wanda Brunstetter's books, and this one did not disappoint me. I shared it with one of my grandsons. He was fascinated with the story and giggled at many of the adventures of Solomon, Sara, and their friends.
