I have had this book many years now. Having reread Bruce Lincoln's Red Victory I once more dipped into Luckett. He manages to make a very messy and confusing conflict less so and gives a sober assessment of the white generals. This is not a work of military history per se, what is does is give an excellent explanation as to how the whites came to lose the civil war and (more importantly) why. In this respect it is the best I've read on the conflict. This one is a "must" for those wanting a broader perspective of the Russian Civil War.
