Real Healthy Living

This book is full of good ideas on how to eat healthy in a way that is not extremist in any way. As a person who grew up in a community of "health food nuts," where recipes were full of good things, but still WAY too fat, sweet, etc., (i.e., just because you don't eat meat doesn't necessarily mean you eat right), this book is teaching me how to use moderation, be able to lose weight when needed, and have a fantastically interesting diet. I'm concerned about using artificial things, and this book has wonderful food, easily prepared without any artificials. You can still use them (for instance, substitute sugar sweeteners, etc) if you want to make the dishes even lower in calories and carbs, but you don't have to, and you can still eat a smart, lean mean diet and never get bored. I especially like the "recipe creators" placed throughout the book, where it gives you a mix and match type chart to make a variety of things, such as soups, smoothies and other things. GREAT BOOK!

Wellness Kitchen

I have owned this book for a year now, and it is the best cookbook I've ever owned. I am getting several copies as X-mas gifts for people who have eaten recipes from this book and want a copy of their own. It has lots of wonderful features. Number one, of course, is that the recipes TASTE GREAT. Most of them are EASY to cook, even if you're a novice, because the recipes come with great instructions. But lots of cookbooks share those benefits. What makes this one stand out is that it promotes GOOD QUALITY and HEALTHY food. It gives nutritional information about every recipe, so if you want to loose weight or have dietary restrictions you can ACCURATELY decide whether a recipe is good for you or how much of it you should eat. It has recipes for not only appetizers, soups, salads, main courses, side dishes, desserts, and breads, but also salad dressings, condiments, relishes, salsas, numerous sauces, etc. It also has lots of recipes that I use for my extra fruits and vegetables from my garden, and then freeze or can them to use all year long. It also has guidelines for cooks with the talent or sense of adventure to be creative -- every main course category (fish, poultry, beef, pork, vegetarian) has a "recipe creator," so you can develop your own stir frys or foil bakes that come out perfect every time, but each one of the endless combinations is unique. (No exact calorie count or nutritional information for these, since you decide the ingredients, but don't worry, they're very healthy.) And one last thing: this is NOT just a cook book for the "health food nut," the organic gardener, the "brown rice and vegetarian" crowd, or the food co-op and farmer's market shopper. This is a book with a huge variety of delicious foods, something for every palate, so don't look at it with suspicion just because the recipes also happen to be healthy. Yes, it should be sold in the waiting room of every physician, dietition, and nutritionist. But don't hold that against it. Unapologetic junk food junkies also love this food.

A super cookbook

This book is packed with nutritional information, and would , make a great gift for a novice or skilled chef who wants to eat very well. I love the recipe creators: you have lists of ingredients, pick items from each column, and then end up with all sorts of terrific variations. It covers every food group, has a pantry section at the back so you can make your own salsas, dressings, dips and so on really easily and healthfully, and gives you all your RDAs too.The how-to and shopping sections are also superb. This book would also go really well with the same authors' Wellness Foods A to Z. It is a complete guide to food and nutrition which everyone interested in health should own. Together the two books make a perfect healthy eating library.

Love it!

I just got this book yesterday from Barnes and Nobel (cheaper there) and I love it! It has a lot of great information nad very easy to read. I'm not a very great cook, but I am psyched to start trying these recipes. My favorite part in in the back. It lists all different kinds of foods and their nutritional information. For instance strawberries. It tells of of the benefits of them and how to get the best from them. I definitely recommend it.
