This book is a spoof of all people who labor at one job during the workweek and then aspire to be something quite different and often contradictory during the weekend. What makes it funny is that there is so much truth in the stories. The title story is about a man who " is a steady, serious sort of chap." During the week, his life is "a dull round of meetings, reports, memos, spreadsheets and bar-charts." However, on weekends he becomes a spiritual seeker in the tradition of the Native American, often adopting what he believes to be the actions and attitudes of his "spiritual forebears." There are 29 such temporary personality types; one of my favorites was "The Sham Vegetarian" a woman who should be called "The Opportunistic Vegetarian", one who eats meat when she is convinced no one is looking. Humorous with the bite of accuracy, this is a book that describes all of us in one-way or another.
