escaflowne is the best !

i like the serie and the writer and i like t see soon a new part of the serie ending by marriage of hitomi and van .i hope the writer read that.

Could be worse...

Well, if you are expecting to see the Escaflowne television show retold, you are out of luck. I enjoyed the manga, but a lot of that was because I knew what to expect -- I knew this version of the manga is the shounen version: it is geared towards boys, so have more violence and mecha. Hitomi is a weaker character, but she still has her moments. Van and Allen are charming, though somewhat different from their TV selves, and Dilandau (who takes on both TV Folken and TV Dilandau's roles) is fascinating as always -- though more as I want to know how he will turn out as compared to the show. Even if you haven't seen the anime, I would recommend this book. Heck, as long as you do not expect a retelling of the anime, I would say you would enjoy this.

Entertaining to Read

I liked this selection because it is fairly well written. It is the original story of Escaflowne before the anime ever came out, so the story is a little different. This disappointed me for a little bit, but I did decide that since it was the first sign of escaflowne to ever be released in Japan, I decided to except it. It is better to read if you don't even think about how different it is from the show.

This is good

I have never seen the anime, so unlike some reviewers, I will not compare the series to the anime. I think this is a good series for several reasons. The characters are well developed, or to say the least, consistent, the artwork isn't bad and it's easy to tell what's going on. In some manga that I've read, the artwork was detailed, but to the point where it was next to impossible to understand what was going on. The story has many action scenes, things to make you chuckle, and even the hint of a romance. I really suggest this series to people who want some thing that doesn't focus on just one element of stories.

Great start

I picked this up after seeing the anime a year or so ago. It drew me in and I read the whole thing in about half an hour. The characters are pretty developed, and I especially love Van, whose always bitching at everyone. He's just so funny. This is a good book. I recommend
