An Absolute Delight!

My mom got this book from the library for Christmas one year and I found it, picked it up and started reading it. And let me tell you I could not put it down! This book is utterly charming and an absolute delight. The Vanderbeekers live in their beloved brownstone in Harlem, New York. And with only a couple days till Christmas their grumpy landlord decides not to renew their lease. It's a race against time as the children devise a plan to get their landlord to like them so that he will renew their lease. The whole atmosphere of this book is charming. I love the Vanderbeekers relationship with each other and their community in Harlem. This is a wonderful book to read for the holiday season, and just like getting a breath of fresh air, or a warm hug:)

Wonderful rambling book. Reminiscent of the old large family-kids-adventure novels of the past. But, with a new twist, diversity. I love the characters and their backgrounds. It breathes new life into a fun story.
