Book Overview

Our fascination with vampires seems never to die -- just look at the continuing success of Anne Rice's New York Times bestsellers. When Zebra originally published The Vampire Memoirs, the sell-throughs were excellent and they attracted a dedicated following. Now, to satisfy reader demand, Zebra is bringing back this remarkable saga, told in the voice of Mara McCuniff, whose life spans 1600 years from 4th century Britain to modern-day LA.

Not bad, I'd say interesting...

Over all this was a pretty good book. The start was good, and the ending was pretty good, but some parts were a bit slow.Meet Mara McCuniff, she's tough, smart, sexy, and also a 1600 year old vampire. This is her story. The reader will learn about her loves, passoins and heart breakes.I found the character of Mara intereseting. As the story opens, we find a young human named Mara. He father wanted a son, and treated her as such. From a early age, she leaned how to fight, and become a warrior. She could take a direct hit, and keep on going. As he became an adult, she was still tough as nails, until she meet Gaar, he soon to be husband. He taugh her how to love and to be a "woman". This is as far as as I can go without spoiling the rest of the book. The char. of the men were interesting. When the story first opens the year is 362. The men were important and the women were second class citizens. It was very male centered with "you do this, woman. You do that Woman."I like how Traci Briery had the male charactere change over the years, and centuires.Over all, I did like this book. However, that beign said, there was one part I didn't like...I can't say what it is b/c it deals with a major spoiler. If you have read the book, feel free to e-mail me and we can talk about it.I loved the Epilouge of this book!! One of the funniest parts of the story was when mara called herself, "The best whore in London."I would have like to see Mara remain a strong female character thought the book. Even though she was a "woman" and had to "remain in her place". Considering her childhood, and how she was brought up, Mara would be a believeable charachter is she was a strong female character in the entire book.Over all I liked this book and highly suggest it to those of you who like vampire books.

The Vampire Memoirs

I found the character Mara fascinating. I could not put the book down, I was drawn to her. Would love to meet her. I enjoyed the story from a female's point of view. I enjoyed the feelings still alive in her. I can't wait to read the Vampire Journals.

A pageturner!

This is the second time I have read this book, I was happy to find it's been reprinted! It has excellent pacing and good character development--and it's REALISTIC; also with humor (very hard to find a quick wit in the average horror novel). The authors obviously studied up to make it accurate, historically and culturally (I hope they don't know from experience! ha ha). I am most impressed with this book! Cheers to Mara and Traci!

This was one of the most vivid books I have ever read.

I found this book in a used bookstore in the back of a shelf, covered in dust. I really loved it. Never have I read a vampire book that felt so real. I really do reccomend it.

The book was an excellent read.

It covered the main characters life from her childhood til almost present day. She contained a life that I had never seen in a vampire so far. Most of the stories I had read in the past were about male vampires but this one showed it from a woman's perspective. It was recommended to me by a friend and if you can locate a copy all I can say is read it. It will keep your interest until the story is over.
