This ia short, 10,000 word history of the brief reign of President James A. Garfield. He was a talented leader and could have been a successful two-term president. An assassin cut him down before he could really show what he could do. Garfield was a brave military hero in the Civil War, and was always on the liberal side of the race issue, relative to his time. He was a good guy.
