Book Overview

France, 1942. "With tremendous effort, I forced myself to hold his gaze. My heart was thrashing inside my chest like a bird battering its wings. The room was suddenly devoid of air. Time itself stood still. They knew who I was. They knew what I'd done." This heartbreaking World War Two page-turner tells the incredible true story Dora Schaul, one of history's most courageous women.

It was a misty Wednesday...

Germany world war II

Based on a true story of Dora Schaul...who was a resistance heroine . It describes her whole life..from when she left Germany, went to Amsterdam, and later to Paris..where she met and fell in love With Alfred Benjamin a Comintern member..who would later become her husband. They were caught in 1939 and arrested and held in holding camps...as enemy aliens of the state as they didn't have documented papers. Dora and Alfred were married while in camp and had come up with a plan to escape...Dora managed to escape with success ..but sadly Alfred was Captured and killed. Dora eventually made a connection with the Resistance cell in Lyon and because of her position as a secretary in the Gestapo headquarters..with Klaus Barbie the "Butcher" as her boss... She was able to get and pass on vital information to the Resiatance... regarding troop movements, planned operations, and the names of SS men ..their victims and the crimes they committed. It was through her bravery and dedication that the Gestapo agents of Lyon were named, verified and found in hiding..after the war...and brought back to Paris to serve Trial...where they were found guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced to life in prison. It was a very compassionate and heartful story...heartbreaking and courageous. Dora Absolutely deserved this story of recognition for her bravery and remarkable courage throughout all the years of the war. The loss of dear family, gassed to death, the eventual death of her husband ..who loved each other heart and soul..dear friends she made in the camp...that she had hoped somehow survived..but sadly were killed also ..so though she lived..she came back to a life with no one...no one she cared about..but she made a promise... till her dying breath she would fight for what's right and just. Wonderfully written...relatable characters.. a really great story. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
