Good read. Very Interesting and I read it much faster than I thought it would.

The authenticity of the adventures of the San Juan Mission are wonderful. Visit Escalante and take one of our maps, drive down the Hole-In-The-Rock Road and stand within Dance Hall Rock yourself. Stand on the edge of "the hole" and think about not only going down that route, but coming back up. On a winter day you can hear nothing and can imagine the sounds of the oxen and the screaching of the wheels chained as they slide down "the hole". You'll have to swim across Lake Powell to the other side, but just standing there you can see the extremes they lived through. This route is through the heart of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, and Glen Canyon Recreation Area. It's an amazing story, well written, accurately documented and those of us in Escalante welcome the telling of this wonderful story. Visit [...] for your map to "the hole"

exanlent book I grew up in this part of the state of Utah and traved most of the area. also some relatetion were with this group so loved to read about them and to have a story line with historal facts is a great way to learn. I've lent the first copy I bought and then got me another one to reread.Will be makeing a lot of Christmas gifts of this book Thank you; Love the web site also Joyce

Wow I have loved all of Gerald Lunds book even the older ones. This book had so much history about places I have lived and been and had no idea about. I loved the family and the love story. He is a great story teller and does so well mixing in the facts with the fiction! I loved the end notes and don't miss the web site it gives you great visulas of what he talks about. GREAT BOOK for all ages!!!!!1
