This book provides the reade with a wealth of information regarding the development and the battles of the U-boats, from the early 1920s to the final days of WW 2. There is a nice analysis of the myriads of factors (technological, tactical and productive) which affected the U-Boat campaign, but unfortunately the book has only a few pages for the period after the decisive battle of May 1943. Although it covers all aspects of the latest "electroboats" like Type XXI and Type XXIII, it doesn't delve into their operations at all, neither mentions the Normandy campaign or the U-Boats' battles of autumn 1944. Otherwise it is an excellent source with minimum errors but without anh photos.
