Book Overview

In her electrifying first novel, Nicole Richie tells the sensational story of Chloe Parker, a rock royalty princess and a card-carrying member of Hollywood's inner circle. At the age of seven, Chloe was adopted by a music superstar and his wife, transforming her life from rags to riches. What followed was a wild childhood distinguished by parties with movie stars and rock idols, run-ins with the press and the police, and a subsequent stint in rehab...

LA can be really cruel

I rarely ever give 5 stars but I really loved this book. It was like she was telling a story about herself but from a different perspective. If some of the areas of the book are true you can see why Nicole and Paris are no longer friends. You get a inside view inside the LA party scene. I would really recommend you read this book.

I really enjoyed this book... Give it a chance!

First off, I am a fan of Nicole. I think she is an awesome person. I would have enjoyed this book even if I wasn't, though! The story is simple enough. Chloe Parker is a club kid with a drug problem. She gets her own series of "reality commercials" with her friend Simone. It is about her struggle with fame, drugs, and romance. "The Truth About Diamonds" is a quick read. It has a total of 224 pages. It didn't take me long at all to finish. I also found it to be a page-turner. I was very interested in what was going to happen next. Nicole's writing is very light and enjoyable. As an added bonus, there is a picture insert in the book with some great photos of Nicole. One of the most interesting aspects of this story is that the narrator is Nicole Richie herself. I thought that was a very nice touch. The book is also filled with pop-culture references. Nicole mentions everything from Mean Girls to Desperate Housewives here. I also found it interesting to see which characters might be based on real people. A few of those comparisons are made quite obvious by the author. If you are a fan of Nicole, or you just like to read a good story, buy this book! You won't be disappointed! In closing, I want to say, give Nicole a chance. She is trying to make a name for herself, and I think she deserves it! Buy this book... What have you got to lose?

Good job Gorgeous : )

BEWARE, SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET!! Now, first off, to hear me say I finished a book in one day is a good sign. Because I'm not a very big book reader at all. I've been anxiously anticipating this book however for at least a year, and was so anxious to finally grab a copy. Ms. Richie did not dissapoint. So much has been said, so I'll just touch quickly on my favorite parts. 1.) I love how gorgeous photoshoots of Nicole which parallelled scenes from the book were included in the middle of the novel i.e. ballerina pics since she indeed was a little ballerina girl, pics of her in her prep school uniform, dressed as the child prostitute in Vegas (which of course was a mixup by the police). 2.) I enjoyed the juicy bits of gossip about Paris Hilton aka Simone Westlake. Could baby Paris really have killed her nanny? Did she really wear platforms and g-strings in the third grade and discuss the size of male genetalia at age 11?? 3.) I thoroughly enjoyed the sections where Nicole described her relationship with her step-mom, Brenda Richie aka Peggy Parker. They seem to have a wonderful if not intense close relationship. Her mom sounds like such a diva, I want her house! 4.) I really like the short chapter about the dream Chloe had of a young Nicole um er Chloe coming into her room and crying in the purple bulb litted bedroom about her parents divorce. 5.) Like mentioned above, I love how Nicole puts herself in the novel as Chloe's friend, so she can tongue-in-cheekily give the impression that she's not Chloe. Clever Ms. Richie, clever. Nicole as a friend is a therapist of sorts to Chloe's hectic lifestyle. 6.) Interestingly enough, the novel doesn't go into too much depth about Chloe's father (of course being based on Lionel Richie). Was this to show they weren't close in her adolescent years, or just to let people know she's not riding on his coattails? Or am I just reading too much into it? Overall, fabulous. Left me wanting more. Loves it. : )

The book's a diamond in its own right

I loved this book. So sue me. I think Nicole has developed so much class. It's been wonderful to see her grow. This inside look is fascinating... a real glimpse into a whole other world. Nicole's writing is fun and light, making this a great plane ride book. I would say beach book... but unless you flee for the holidays, enjoy this one with a throw and some tea. It made me laugh and do some investigating to figure out who the real people behind the characters are. "Reality Fiction." Brilliant. And there's no one like Nicole to start a whole new genre.

Great book

****Warning Spoilers**** In Nicole's first book (hopefully not last), she tells the story about Chloe Parker who was adopted when she was a little girl on Prince's 1984 purple tour. Sound familar? Chloe grows up in clubs dancing to the music. She starts doing drugs at age thirteen and is thrown into a reality commerical with her "fake friend" Simone in her early twenties. At the beginning of the reality show, Chloe decides to check herself into drug rehab and comes out sober and fifteen pounds heavier. Anway, not to spoil the rest of the book, let's just say after a major gossip scandal she gets the biggest surprise of her life. I really liked this book, Nicole can really write and her book only has a few pictures unlike a certain person who's "autobiography" is filled with nothing but pictures and quotes. ``Katrina
