An ugly pizza maker loses his job because of his looks but finally finds work making pizzas on the roof of an old skyscraper. This description may be from another edition of this product.
One of the few 'favorites' my children would request for their bedtime book. If you grew up in a city, a New Yorkie kinda city, the images will rekindle childhood memories and create new ones for your own little guys. Even if you never grew up anywhere near a stoop, the story and illustrations are fun, colorful and lend themselves to embellishment (if you are so inclined) by the reader. Kids love the idea that they come to know a scary looking Ogre is really just a shy, nice person who loves children and cooking. This book is for sure '5 stars and 8 slices'. The Top of the Pizzas
A lovely story

This book is a wonderful way for parents to teach their children about finding your vocation, and how (not) to treat other people. It's sad, funny, and delicious! The pictures are wonderful.
Just don't Judge

A friend told me about this book, and I am glad I finally own it. An age old story about the ignorance of judging people. The illustrations are terrific and took me back to my childhood. This story should be adapted into a film with the characters fully developed. Until then, I will be reading this to my nieces and nephews.Michael Durankowww.bootism.com
My all time favorite!

This was my favorite book while growing up. I had my parents and older sisters read and reread it to me every night. The story is about an ugly ogre who loved to make delicious pizzas. When a patron discovers him in the kitchen, the pizzeria has to fire him. The poor, depressed Ogre finally finds work on the roof of an old skyscraper making pizzas for the tourists. It's a great story-line: Don't judge a book by its cover. You can certainly judge this book by its cover. The illustrations are fantastic! It's just too bad that it is out of print.

This childrens book has a cute storyline about a friendly ogre. I loved it as a child! My mother got it at a garage sale. She lost it & now that I have a daughter of my own I want to find it! It was one of my favorites! I like the moral of the story, looks can be deceiving, personality is what counts. The best thing about the book are the illustrations! Bright & cheery, it sure makes you hungry for pizza! Any kid would love this book.
