The Summer Of the Osprey

I have read all of Elizabeth's Bennet's Island books. Truly enjoyed this one as much as I did all of the rest except for The Day Before Winter. I didn't want to see the Bennetts leaving their island for good! Probably that's why I didn't like that one so well. In ...Osprey, though, I liked the way Owen and Vanessa handled life in the years that followed their realization of the love they shared. To me, it was VERY realistic. Vanessa meant so much to Owen that he developed a much more honorable part of his character. They meant so much to each other that they had to behave exactly the way they did. This does happen, believe it or not. I really liked the way the author showed just enough of the way things now were. She didn't get maudlin (when has she ever?), just set things out as they were. Don't these characters, these Bennetts, all seem truly real after awhile?! Thank you, thank you, Elizabeth! Though now you are gone, still I must say it. P.R.Wooldridge

Re-reading Bennett's Island books

I have read all of Elisabeth Ogilvie's books over and over. They are wonderful, believeable stories of the Bennett family and others living on Bennett's Island from the 1940's to the present day. I've enjoyed these books for many years and have just finished re-reading the entire series again (maybe for the 3rd time?). I feel like I have known these people for years and am planning a trip to Maine someday to go to Criehaven (the island that Bennett's was modeled after). It will be like going home! This second-to-last book of the series (the last is The Day Before Winter) is one of her less believeable, but still fun to read.
