Great PreChristmas Reading to Remind Us of Christmas' Importance

This is really a number of stories by Henry Van Dyke. The Story of the Other Wise Man I have heard told by others. This was a great reminder that you don't have to be the one who is at the big events or who gets all the fanfare for doing the deeds. He spent his life in search of the Saviour but instead of finding the King, he helped others out by giving his gifts. In the end, he thought he'd wasted all his gifts, but he'd helped others. The Christmas Angel told the story of the angels as they were guided to the shepherd to sing and tell about the birth of the Christ child. It wasn't the famous angels who were leading the other hosts to show where they would announce the birth. They were surprised when it was not in the major cities of the day, but in a field with shepherds. The Spirit of Christmas is a great reminder that we need Christmas everyday, not just one time a year. Gifts should be something from you not just something. It should be something that can remind the receiver of you each day. They even include specific wording you can use.
The truest gift is love

I remember reading this story and seeing the TV movie when I was a boy. Recently, I mentioned the story to a friend of the family and she had never heard of it. It is a shame that a classic story that tells of true devotion and sacrifice has been forgotten. This is a story that once read, will remain with you and help guide you in your daily life. It helps to remind us that ". . . when you (clothed/fed/etc) to the least among you, you did it to me . . ." rings forth each day in our actions toward others. It is a Christmas story, and Easter story, and a story for each day of our lives. Read it and share it with those you love.
