Star Trek- TOS: The Starship Trap

Star Trek- The Original Series: The Starship Trap written by Mel Gilden is a character driven book. The author writes in detail and develops the charaters over the first 80 pages so, it's slow moving until you get to the surprise. This book is a Kirk book first and foremost. Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise must prevent the galaxy from all out full-scale war. You see not only Federation ships are missing, but so are Romulan, Klingon and a whole host of other ship are not reporting in or arriving at their destinations. Now, the mystrey is afoot, as Kirk tries to get to the crux of the matter. There is intrigue at the diplomatic reception as the Enterprise is en route, but the Klingon's intercept the Enterprise and demand answers. But, the crafty Kirk manages to get a truce with the Klingons. There is plenty of suspense, intrigue, skullduggery, and scheming in this book after the character development.I can't give away any more to the plot or you'll figure out the ending. Read this book as it is vintage Kirk trying to save the galaxy.

Very entertaining

The only reason I give this book four stars is because the beginning(up to pg. 80)is rather boring.I realize that the author was trying to develop the characters(which he did quite well,if I may add),but it's a little slow.Dr. Oman is a very belivable character, the best in the book(besides Kirk,of course)a genius with an almost impossible vision and an impossible way to acieve it.The Aleph,oh,how should I describe it?It's fabulous! The auther describes a "shifting, shining, ethereal diamond".The description is wholly perfect. This book is one of the richest "Trek" books in detail!

Slow Start, But Excellent Plot: A Winner!!!

To date I have read many Star Trek books-both from the origanal and T.N.G.-and I believe "The Starship Trap" by Mel Guilden is one of the best! It combines some new well-developed charactures, a good share of action and a intriguing plot. From begining to end I enjoyed this book and would read it again anytime. Another winner from the world of "Star Trek"!
