The Skin of Culture: Investigating the New Electronic Reality

This is one of my favorite books dealing with the psychology of media and how the brain processes different types of media. If you like McLuhan, then you will love this.

I had the pleasure to meet Derrick after he gave a conference in the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City, and a couple of days later I was reading his book. I was just amazed. Later I wanted to compare it with Negroponte's Being Digital and, believe me, they are similar but not the same. Don't get me wrong: both are nice books, fun and understandable, but you should begin with De Kerckhove --I don't really know why, but I felt that The Skin of Culture had a wider vision of the New Media. As a reader I want to have a good time with a book (I'm an hedonist, what can I say). Even when I'm not an academic kind of guy, I found this book pretty enjoyable --a damn good discovery. As an editor, I have to say that everyone who is or wants to be a journalist must read it. Thanx to Alfredo Troncoso for being the person who introduced me to Derrick De Kerckhove's work.
