Absolutely the BEST ever written about belly dance technique
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
This book got me started in 1973 and I haven't quit dancing yet! Serena Wilson was called "THE teacher of American belly dancing" by the late Dr. Paul Monty, the first promoter of belly dance workshops in America. Serena formulated a terminology and a technique for this dance, and has been much copied, without credit being given where credit is due. She teaches a graceful, controlled style. The pictures and breakdowns of the movements are precise at every step along the way, leaving no doubt as to how the step should be done. Additional information about rhythms, costuming, ideas as to how to structure a dance routine, how to have a middle Eastern party, are all given. Nothing on the market before or since written on belly dance technique is this comprehensive and detailed. Someone grounded in Serena's technique should be able to easily pick up variations of different technique from other teachers with less difficulty than dancers not trained in her technique. (I performed professionally and also taught belly dancing.)
