The Scripture Guide: A Familiar Introduction to the Study of the Bible

Dr. James Alexander's, "The Scripture Guide" is a book that is highly original and enjoyable. Taking place in the early 1800s he sets the scene by having two young nephews visit their uncle who is referred to as "The Bible Man". The book takes the form of a homey dialogue between the three with questions and superb answers from the uncle. He covers the origins of the Bible, inspiration, authorship and facts about the Bible- it is all here in a very practical and enjoyable format. There are a few statements that are dated but Dr. Alexander believed heart and soul in a Bible that is without error, trustworthy and a book that is unlike any other. If you are tired of books that question the Bible then here is a solid book for you to enjoy. It certainly helped me appreciate what a treasure our English Bible is. He used the King James Version for his book but the English Standard Version, the New American Standard and the New International Version are all reliable translations. (The NIV is the one I have used with great pleasure for more than 28 years.) Dr. Aexander was also a very accomplished theologian and one of the greatest preachers of his day.
