The Road to Reward: Living Today in Light of Tomorrow

Bob Wilkin and Grace Evangelical Society are one of the few in Evangelical circles who call Christians to live lives of holiness so that we will not be ashamed when we stand before Christ at the Bema. Standing before the Judgment Seat of Christ is a serious issue, yet modern American churches are so busy being seeker friendly and experimenting with rock music (have you ever sung "Hallelujah, What a Saviour" to a rock beat? I have, and it's quite disconcerting, actually) that truly valuable Biblical teaching is about as rare as hen's teeth. But Bob and GES keep the focus on what is important: serving Christ NOW so that LATER we can hear our precious Saviour's approval: Well done, good and faithful servant. Too many Christians either have their heads in all the self help books, or they have their ipods cranked up with loud, rock music. Let's keep our eyes on the real Rock, the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word. The rewards He has to offer are better than anything this sorry old world can supply. Dr Wilkin's book helps focus on what is really important: living with a view to eternity. He also has a section in which he helpfully discusses the different types of rewards. It is exciting and energizing to think about these things and the blessings associated with following and serving Christ. Truly motivating book! Salvation=free; discipleship=costly. Don't confuse the two. This book will help you differentiate between them if you've been drowning in the lordship salvation literature. Lordship salvation teaching presents salvation as a bilateral compact deal between someone and God. It doesn't work that way. Check out Bob Wilkin's other books if you're confused about how to receive eternal life from the Lord Jesus Christ. It's not as hard as the MacArthur crowd would make you believe.

Many Christians often have the idea that eternal rewards are either non-existent or unimportant, yet this could not be further removed from the Biblical teaching on the subject. Eternal rewards are in fact the most often employed motivation in the New Testament for faithful service to the Lord and the bulk of the Old Testament serves (as one of its purposes) as an immense type of rewards at the coming Kingdom.To most people, texts like "Do you not know that those running in a stadium all run, but one receives the prize? So run, in order that you may win. And everyone who competes exercises self-control in all things. Now they compete in order that they may receive a perishable crown, but we compete for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not as without a goal, thus I box: not as one beating the air. But I treat my body roughly, and I bring it into subjection, lest, having preached to others, I myself should become disqualified" (1 Corinthians 9:24-27) make little or no sense. Aren't we saved by grace through faith (see Ephesians 2:8-9)?Dr. Wilkin has given the Church a tool that not only can help the scriptures make sense to anybody, but can make our purpose and our lives make sense. I highly recommend this book. It is easy to read and can help you in your walk tremendously. As always, in treating this wonderful subject, Dr. Wilkin makes absolutely no compromises on the gospel.
