The Book That Started a Million Enneagram Journeys

What you don't know about yourself can hurt you and your relationships--and even keep you in the shallows with God. Do you want help figuring out who you are and why you're stuck in the same ruts?

The Enneagram is an ancient personality typing system with an uncanny accuracy in describing how human beings are wired, both positively and negatively. In The Road Back to You...

"Just be yourself" becomes "Just stop being yourself"

This book is a bad introduction to the Enneagram and personality. It is one-sidededly negative view of personality. It claims personality is merely a series of psychological defenses that one grows into, tabula rasa. The book also claims that personality limits us from being better people, which can be the case, yet it hardly acknowledges the other side, how one's personality may be leveraged. Hence, it often seems the solution it suggests is just an unhelpful turn of the trite phrase "Just be yourself" i.e. "Just stop being yourself". Moreover, its theological claims and reasoning are dubious. It hardly cites any Scripture. The writing style is annoying. Overall, this book fails to "embody" 1 Corinthians 12: "If the ear should say 'Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,' that would not make it any less of a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose." (ESV)

The Road Back to You changed the way I treat myself and the people around me

I studied this book! It was crazy to read each section that mirrored people I know. It changed the way I talk to people around me because this book taught me why people do the things they do. God created each of us and this book helped me find my gift from God and learn what I can't change on my own. I highly recommend this book to learn about yourself and hopefully others too.

Perfect introduction to the Enneagram!

A friend recommended this to me, and it was the perfect introduction to the enneagram. I had been reading a lot online about my types and all the others, but this is very helpful in learning which number you truly are. Ian Morgan Cron uses a lot of personal stories and theology to give better explanations of each number. I really recommend this as a first-introduction to aspiring enneagram fanatics!

excellent

I laughed out loud and thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had some new info I hadn't read on the E-gram, and I came away with a better understanding of "wings". I love the E-gram and can get bogged down learning about all 9...this book was engaging with so much humor, balanced strength/challenge of each number, and just the right amount of scholarship. Thanks!!

A must read for an enneagram student who wishes to learn from a spiritual perspective.

This book is extremely well written. The author has a gift for making it entertaining and very spiritually sound. I had a choice to begin my journey through the study of the enneagram among several books and will never regret having chosen this one. I will be happy to read it over again.
