Can't resist a man in (or out) of uniform!

This is the sequel to "The Chief Ranger" and it was even more engaging. It is helpful to have read the first book in the series, but it isn't necessary in order to figure out what is going on because the author fills you in along the way. The "secret" doesn't stay secret long--in fact, most of it is given away on the back cover. The hero, Chase/Robert, is a typical Winters' hero--strong, sexy, and honorable. That is the type of hero Rebecca Winters does best, and she doesn't disappoint in this book. The heroine, Annie, was a bit annoying when she persisted in blaming Chase for things that had been beyond his control, and I wish she had been a bit more "gutsy" but the romance was sweet and satisfying. This is a "clean" romance that could be read by a young teen, so you can expect some sexual tension between the two main characters but not any graphic descriptions of love-making. The relationship between Chase and his daughter was endearing, and added a lot to the plot. This will go on my "keeper" shelf with many other books by this author.

A lovely story...

Yay! I get to be the first to write a review for this book! This book was a top pick from Romantic Times and it certainly deserves the honor. The story involves Ranger Chase and the secret he has been hiding for ten years. Through an unforseen accident, he is reunited with the woman he loved all those years ago. She thought he was dead and has been raising his daughter. Yeah, one of those "secret baby" stories, but this one has such wonderful characters, so who cares? Chase and Annie are both characters that you really care about and respect. He has a very legitimate reason for his decade long subterfuge but when he realizes that he has a child, he knows he must make contact. Annie on the other hand is understandably hurt and angered by the fact that he has kept his distance all these years. Both characters behave in a very realistic manner but they also put the needs of their daughter first. As a reader you really root for them to put their hurt behind them and come together in love. This was the first book I read by the author, but I am definitely going to read the first book in this series, "The Head Ranger". This was a "sweet" romance, no overt sexuality, although the reader recognizes how much the H/h desire each other. This was a bit of a departure for me as usually I am a BLAZE girl--I might have been a TINY bit disappointed that it wasn't spicier, but the emotions are so real and the characters so likeable that I was completely entranced by the story. I highly reccommend it!
