The Rainy Day

My daughter loves this book, and others by the same author. The pages aren't excessively wordy, but the ideas presented are those that cause children to think in greater detail about things they may have noticed but never gave much thought to. In this book for example, there is a page that explains how roots absorb water that plants need. My daughter had never seen a root before, so we went out to the yard and picked out a small weed so I could show her the roots. She also likes it every time we get to the part where the rain starts falling, and some of the creatures take cover to stay dry, while others come out to enjoy the water. The contrast there just floors her. This book and others by Milbourne are easy to read yet thought-provoking for inquisitive young minds. The illustrations are well-done. My daughter stops me every page or two to ask questions, despite having already read them several times over. Perfect for 3 - 5 year-olds.

The kids can't get enough of these books. They are sturdy and they love picking them up and love hearing them over and over again. Beautiful pictures, easy to understand, perfect for toddlers and pre-school.

I bought this book for my four-year old daughter and she loves it! It has pretty illustrations and it's also educational. Although [...] says it's for ages 4-8, the Usborne website states 2-years old and up. I love the Usborne books because they are so educational and engaging to look at, which doesn't hurt!
