This is a wonderful book for beginning quilters and not-so-beginning quilters. Ms. Gordon includes photographs of the various tools used in creating quilts. She shows pictures of historically significant quilts and provides commentary about the various styles and patterns. The major portion of the book is filled with carefully drawn and colored illustrations showing individual patches and variations as well as detailed step-by-step instructions for crafting the patches. Along the way, the reader absorbs ideas about color and pattern matching. I have had this book checked out from my public library for six weeks and finally realized that it was time to buy my own copy. I know I'll be referring to this book over and over again in the years ahead.
