This is a great pilot for a TV series that never made. Now novelized by D. C. Fontana. Five countries pool resources to build a beyond the state of the art android. The main inventor Dr. Vaslovik is missing. Attempts to decipher his programming tapes destroyed part of them. Now the android (Questor) has to seek Vaslovik and find out why he was made. Just like Pinocchio needed a cricket as his conscious, Questor caries one of his assemblers to learn to be human. This book works well as a standalone story; However if you saw the pilot the images will still be there as you read. The Questor Tapes

Just the Best!

One of those stories, like The Princess Bride or Good Omens, that moves into your brain and stays there. An all too human and fallible pair of heroes (even the one who isn't human), a noble villain, and a project that could change the world if any of the participants actually knew what in heck they were doing.D.C. Fontana took the best bits (some unfilmable on a 1973 television budget) from several different drafts of the original script by Genes Roddenberry and Coon, restructured them, and added much coolness of her own. I read this when it was first published, and read it to this day, now in durable hardbound form. If you know the movie, the book is even better. If you don't know it, you don't need to - discover this unjustly neglected, highly accessible bit of SF treasure for yourself!
Humanistic Drama

An excellent book with suspense, drama, action, and human interest. An unusual approach to truth, honesty, compassion, and true friendship. The journey that the main characters take to find themselves and where they fit in this world is conscious grabbing and thought provoking. I read this book in the late 70's for a report in Jr. high. I loved it then and now. I've just recently re-read it. It is a keeper! Definitely one to read and re-read over and over again. Few books and/or movies have that appeal. You won't grow tired of it!
The Best Book Ever.

if you are into conspiracies and such you will love this book. The theme of the story doesn't really revolve around the character, Questor, but the lesson that is learned at the end. READ THE BOOK! damn it's good.
