Grimes is very influential in modern scholarship that is looking at both the impact of arguments of women's equality and arguments about women's moral superiority. He makes a strong case for the impact of women's moral superiority arguments in the American West, but may downplay the importance of beliefs in women's equality in the zeal to make his case. However, the strength of his argument continues to merit discussion and this book continues to impact today's scholars of the women's suffrage movement in the U.S. and in other societies.
