University Hospital is a gleaming showplace of modern medicine. But a string of tragic deaths has struck the neonatal unit-- each young fatality marked by a bizarre pathology. No one understands what could be causing the senseless deaths-- and no one is trying to find out. But one young doctor is determined to uncover the truth. As Dr. Brad Hawkins follows the twisted corridors and the shrouded secrets of University Hospital, he begins to uncover an unthinkable conspiracy of evil and greed. And as the tiniest victims continue to perish, Brad is racing against time, to catch a murderer who operates with startling brutality-- and save himself from ending up in the hospital morgue...
I was recommended this book by a good friend, I am very glad I read it, I was very skeptical at first though because I thought medical thrillers would be diffucult for me to understand, but I found it easy to read. The plot itself was unique and I did enjoy it, but it could have been written differently. There were a lot of different situations going on that were interesting to read. Morgan Robinson and Brad Hawkins have the same suspicions about the babies that are dying in the NICU unexpectantly and they dont know why. So they start looking to find answers, what they get, as usual, goes way beyond what they thought they were getting into.
Interesting as a medical thriller, but..

Although it's a horrible story as the neonates are the victims,it's still possible when the managed care went too far.As a foreigner, I hope the American managed care system is kept under far more close observation in reality.I would rate this book 5, were it not for the unnecessary scuffle of the last 40 pages. Leave it in NYPD hands, doctors!!I wonder why the medical or forensic thriller writers including P. Cornwell, K. Reichs, want to put unnecessary, unreal fighting scenes without probability.
Phenomenal Book

The Provider is a suspenseful book that you won't want to put down. I read it in one sitting and can't wait to read Shobin's other books. Any fan of mystery and suspense should pick this one up.

This may be the greatest medical thriller ever written! Do not miss it! It's even better than Twinkletoe S.'s best.

If you've ever had a child in the hospital this book will scare the hell out of you. This book will open your eyes and make you wonder if things like this can and do happen. I think this book is one of the best I've ever read and I read all the time.David Shobin rates right up there with the likes of Robin cook, Nancy Fisher, Michael Palmer, and Leonard Goldberg. If you love medicine and mysteries you'll love this book. Buy it now and read it.It might just make you rethink your medical coverage.
