Sweet Romance

Darlene Franklin has a special ability to write a sweet romance that keeps you engaged from the first page to the last. In Prodigal Patriot, you can't help but become invested in Sally and Josiah lives. If you are looking for a sweet romance with a happily ever after, I highly recommend this book.

Revolutionary War Rages

The Prodigal Patriot depicts a time of turmoil, uncertainty, and war. Sometimes, even family members held opposing views about whether the colonies should stay loyal to the king or fight for their independence. Darlene Franklin tells a gripping tale of one family who showed the courage to work for what they believed in against all odds. The Reids face danger and risk discovery as they strive to hold on to their land. Hiding in a cave nearby, they tend to their fields under cover of darkness. Josiah Tuttle, despite his brother's death at the hands of the enemy, offers his help to the Reid family. Not only does he believe in the Patriot cause, he also loves Sally Reid. Yet, to help the Reid family deems him disrespectful to his father. Sally meets Josiah's offer of assistance with suspicion and fear. Is he acting as a spy for the cause his father so staunchly believes in? Trust and love build as she is faced with situations that require Josiah's assistance and support. This story brings characters from the Revolutionary War period to life, portrays their struggles and their courage, and culminates in a conclusion that portrays the power of faith and forgiveness. Again, Darlene Franklin takes us away to a another place and time where we become immersed in a story that entertains, teaches, and satisfies.

Sweet Revolutionary Romance

I don't usually read stories set during the Revolutionary War period, but Darlene Franklin's tale made me glad I did. Wonderful historical accuracy, courageous characters, and the drama of a town divided all came together to form a delightful read. I was particularly touched by the spiritual theme that demonstrated the commitment necessary to trust God in face of personal tragedy and strife. I would definitely recommend The Prodigal Patriot to readers who enjoy sweet historical romance.

vivid writing, beautiful story

I just finished this book in one sitting. Not because the story lacked depth, or even due to the fact that this is a short book. I have read novellas that dragged. . . No, this was a quick read because the characters invited me into their world of Revolutionary War Vermont, and drew me with their hardships, ingenuity, and pluck. The writing disappeared and allowed a vivid story world to emerge. I was invested. Sally Reid lives next door to Josiah Tuttle, the handsome, attentive son of a Tory. Sally's brother and Father are Patriots and serve with Ethan Allen's Green Mountain Boys. Tragedy strikes both families, and their worlds will never be the same. How can new love survive grief, violence and suspicion? This is a story about faith, endurance and prevailing love. Hero and heroine discover the depth of their grit and find that affection between friends, neighbors and sweethearts can indeed overcome insurmountable obstacles in this beautiful portrait of our country's historical and spiritual roots.
