Edited Spurgeon But Still Powerful Reading

While I concur with one reviewer that these books do not completely represent the depths of Charles Spurgeon's preaching, I still have to give the book five stars for still being a book of conviction and renewed passion for prayer that can come from reading it. The book's title reveals the true content of the book. It is on the power of prayer. Spurgeon (the edited one that is) shows the believer how powerful prayer can be if the believer will take God at His Word and pray (Matthew 7:7-8). The chapters are short so you could put this next to your bed and read a chapter each night (or morning) before falling on your face in worship of our God (for prayer means literally to bend the knee). And truly no-one knew that more than the greatest English preacher ever, Charles Spurgeon, who built his life and ministry around prayer.

The Door is open to all.

Much valuable insight into the discipline that brings one to living in the heart of the Christian life but this is also a discipline that, in some cases, is sorely neglected. The body needs air, the spirit needs prayer. Spurgeon cites example after example (mostly Biblical) of the power of prayer in the life of the believer. He also points out the instances of those who had lived in total rebellion though their prayers were answered when they turned to God. Inspiring and easily uplifting.

Neglected biblical insights on prayer

Spurgeon's little book on prayer has shed light on many neglected aspects of prayer. In this little book he doesn't give a comprehensive theology on prayer, but rather focuses on truths that build up one's prayer life positively. He makes it clear to you that prayer isn't merely for improving one's relationship with God, but God also desires to answer our prayers and give us gifts through our prayer. He tells us how "Prayer brings big answers" and explains "why God is bound to answer our prayers"Out of the 6 chapters here, my favourite chapter is definitely the third one - "Order and Argument in Prayer." It is a chapter on using "arguments" in prayer. What he explains in this chapter is something I have never learnt before but I'm starting to learn now. This chapter alone is worth the price of the whole book and will give you wonderful insights into prayer and transform your prayer life if you apply it!Most Christians may be weary of the "Faith" Movement as their teachings seem very irreverent and unbiblical and onesided. In reaction, Christians have reacted against any teaching which seems to say that prayer with faith brings us good gifts. They have stayed away from anything that seems too "positive" in prayer. But Spurgeon helps us realise from his BIBLICAL sermons that prayer can bring us great results and God desires to bless us through prayer. And this comes from not someone who is part of the Faith movement, but rather someone who lived a century before!Read this book, digest it, apply it and I promise you your prayer life will change for the better.
